  Basically I started this project because we had to test working with silicone for our city project, and to make the module there is a technique- molding. You just create a negative mold and pour it with the material you need. This is a mini 4leg-gripper that can grab anything and even carry it (up to 1kg). It consists of two parts: thin layer, that is stretchy and thick layer that we get using the 3D printed mold. When the air is pumped into a gripper the thin layer stretches and working together with the thick layer, which having stronger properties bends , all together it creates curving reaction of each leg. While we were researching the properties of silicone it came out that the structure of mold is very important. So the parts that divide the leg to separate sections are making the direction of curvature – it bends perpendicularly to the border of the section. That means if we have done divisions of the central part diagonal, then the leg would twist.
PROCESS DESIGN
The mold was created in Rhinoceros and further gcode for Ultimaker was programmed in Cura. There is stl file and it can be printed using any 3D printer, if someone wants to try it out. mini_4leg_grapper The process of printing the mold
